The joy of ministering to prisoners that want to be free in Jesus Christ is the same the world over. This report from the country of Myanmar should encourage you, if you have ever thought of entering this joy-filled ministry, to move forward!

Dear Pastor Loren and Mrs. Ethel Price;

We are sending you a news concerning our prison ministry that [was] conducted in Meiktila prison written by Saya U Soe Myint. Please keep praying for us as we are praying for you. May God bless and a happy new year.

Saw Thein [Director of Myanmar Frontier Missions]

Rejoice With Those Who Rejoice And Weep With Those Who Weep (Roman. 12:15)

By - U Soe Myint

At the morning of December 25, 2005, we reached inside a wonderful place for us and met with the strangers whom we never known. The place is about 15' * 20' wide small room, surrounded by high thick brick walls, a prison of middle Myanmar.

In reality, the strangers we met were not the strangers, because they were the Christian prisoners. Oh! how wonderful to meet with our brothers and sisters.

We went there for a Christmas celebration with them. In Myanmar that was a special chance. Through the grace of God, by the permission of authority concerned, we got that special chance. Praise the Lord!

Our group leader was a U Saw Thein, the director of Myanmar Frontier Mission. The 24 male and 4 female prisoners joined with us in worship service.

"The voice of the praising song "joy to the world" was spreading towards all directions, perhaps up to the outside of the walls. They praised joyfully with us. We had seen the happiness on their faces and we felt the same.

During worship service, a young prisoner named Kyaw Thu Ra sang a praising song "December Memory". By that song we felt his feeling of sadness and longing of his past time during which he celebrated Christmas with his family warmly and happily.

We heard the crying of his heart and felt the same. While we probably controlling our tears, the women of our group were weeping. Oh! we all were weeping with those who were weeping inside a prison. Our hearts were filled with sympathy and empathy.

After Christmas celebration, we delivered Pam flats of Good News, Christmas presents and fed them and all other prisoners who were not able to participate, with Myanmar traditional food (Mon hin ga).

We were rejoiced with those who rejoiced and wept with those who wept during the same day in a small room of the jail. Oh! a wonderful day had passed together with Jesus!

"Welcome Home"

Those are two words some women have waited years to hear. Locked away inside the Oregon state women’s prison at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, many have almost lost hope of ever hearing those two simple little words. Welcome home.
Only God understands the pain, heartache, and damage these women may have received—and inflicted—in their lives. But as we remember how Jesus looked upon the eager hearts of the two men naked, bruised, bleeding, hair matted, with chains dangling, and words of the devil coming from their lips, we hope. We hope as we look into the beautiful eager faces each Sabbath that we minister with our music, our words, our love. We hope that they have hearts eager to be changed by Jesus.
We at Hidden Pearl Ministries believe each woman at CCCF is a hidden pearl and has the potential to become something beautiful, valuable, and useful in God’s plan. We want to be His hands and feet . . . to be one of the first to say to those wanting to change their lives outside those prison walls—”welcome home!”

Vision

We have high hopes and big plans! Our vision is to continue the process of growth women who want to succeed will have started while they were in prison. We want to offer hope to those who have seen a glimpse of a better life. Instead of getting out of prison and perhaps having nowhere to turn, no place to live, and few job opportunities, we want to offer a place to start. We can see a future for those willing to commit to the hard work it takes.
We see an integrated program in our future that will include help finding housing, work, and mentoring—counseling, family therapy, medical and educational support, and the opportunity to participate in a weekly small group Bible study.
We envision willing, trained, volunteers available to mentor one-on-one. To give an hour a week perhaps, to listen, support, and encourage.

Goals & Needs
Our first goal is to begin the encouragement process while the women are still in prison. One way that can happen, is if they see you “stepping up” to minister to them, either while in prison or through offers of help in this program when they get out. This starts immediately. Next, we have a product line developed, and dedicated completely to God for this service, that will give them work.
We need a place to manufacture these items. Our first product is a line of hand-crafted children’s wood furniture items called “Kingdom Kids.” We are open to other suggestions, as well.
We need volunteers to assist in transition classes aimed at helping them learn to cope with life on the outside. We want to hold classes in everything from healthful living to budgeting. Possibly even tutoring for educational needs.
We need safe housing for some.
We need donations.
We need prayer.
